So here’s a simple solvent - (Feat. robots.)

I have either been lax in my musical postings as of late, or busy re-evaluating my methods of creation & distribution.  I have yet to really decide which one.  Either way, my sincerest apologies Internet.  Life is messy, and motivation not always plentiful, but I’m trying to work on not letting that constantly derail things.

So here’s a little what-have-you I came up with a few weeks ago while in the park, and if you’re into such things I do ever so hope you enjoy it.

Regardless, if you’ve ever taken the time to listen to my attempts to discover my own voice or to establish a process from a vacuum, Thanks.   It really means the world.  And I may have said it before, but I  truly hope to have something a little more tangible for you this year.

So here’s a simple solvent - (Feat. robots.)

(And, my dear lady was kind enough to lend me the use of her fancy computer so I’m not relegated to sounding like I’m performing inside of a wind factory.)

Because yay, I have my 8-track again!

And I get to play with my sm-57 and say goodbye to a bunch of pointless background  air.  A full Huzzah is in order.

A comfortable Plea - of-the-non-iphone/cheapwebcam variety

will most likely re-record post LA because this take ended up being slower than I’d like at points, (and I had to frankenstein the ending, but not like you need to know that…wait.) but das ok.

1 note   -  17 January 2013

Haven’t posted one of these in a while.

8 notes   -  4 January 2013

single-take via Iphone.

as I am now apparently writing a theme album about the upcoming robot vs. human conflicts.  And without further ado, (or any ado at all really) the tentatively titled -

Tetsuo-5 comes up with a plan for Battle (demo)

At least I won’t
forget to build myself again today
recount the bones
the muscles all come pulling into place
and what they want
is another harlequin to make them ok.
but we can beat them at their own games.

So don’t call it off.
we’ll make them sweat
they’ll rue the fucking day
they might’ve thought
we’d be better served by falling into place
with what they’ve wrought,
you think they’d acclimate to jackpot stakes
but they just wave.

They’ll tell you at least it’s something
Are you trying to sell it to me
or to yourself?
But you got a bigger thing coming,
and you’re not inclined to let it show
so the hell with you, we’re moving on.

When we last talked
I could’ve sworn you called me out by name
it doesn’t happen often
that’s why it stayed with me
with all the things you think are fast asleep
because they’re not on my sleeve.

but I swear I believe
in some things.

oh what the hell.

early morning demo.  Feat. machines.

I got bored today and this was the byproduct.  Forever avoiding homework.

an arrangement of The Company Dime - oneofmyfavoritesongsofalltime originally written by The Get Up Kids

(Arrangement in the sense that I transcribed this version from memory and went somewhat crazy with melodica effects in post.  I reserve all rights to hate parts of this in the morning.)

(… I did warn someone about letting me have one.)

rewritten/re-recorded How to build an EP

Enjoy!

Here’s a bit of one thing I’ve been wrassling with recently for EP #2.  Mostly finished at this point, just working on some editing and re-working some earlier material.  Still aiming for being done in July(ish).

In case you were curious.

and when you take things over, I’ll give you till the count of ten to throw the old guard from the highest parapets.  Before they hit the pavement, you’ll be throwing them parades, erase the minor details, as you hail to better days.  But I’ll believe it when I see it, man.  Echoing off corners, written on hands, and not this road, you have laid out as set in stone.

speaking with voices not your own.  breaking their will with all your won’t

‘cause they kept you waiting in the wings, for too long.

1 note   -  20 June 2012

20 plays

might as well while I’m at it.

rescued this from a failed memory card a few weeks/months/? ago.  Added some stuff.  (but mostly some things.)

a guitar arrangement of A song for Kelly Huckaby - originally written by Death Cab for Cutie.

and half the reason I wanted to drive to California.

revising old things.  Updates soon.

the only quasi-political thing I’ve ever finished, and one of the first songs for this project.  fitting for this upcoming year.

Candidate (one of these things is not like the others) - re-recorded 4-17-12.  Full lyrics and download on soundcloud page.

so you’re taking it to bed with you every single night
have you bought stock in your bullshit
do you still put up a fight?
you better get out
and tell them your story
another quivering crowd
to sacrifice for some glory

and you won’t even hesitate

2 notes   -  17 April 2012

went to sleep with 0 plays for the week so far

woke up to 73 plays and 30 downloads

(oh hai, you fantastic people/persons, you.)

you, dear listener(s), have resurrected my enthusiasms.

thanks.

I have some catching up to do.  Halfway, though.

I will be impressed at your equivalent nerd-level if you catch the references of this song.  (not that it’s that hard.)

I also apologize to any musical theory sticklers if this is not an actual fugue, because quite frankly, I’m not particularly certain how to differentiate what one would even sound like.  But it’s not really the point of the title, so..that’s the only hint you’ll get out of me.

so without further babbling or ado-ing.

A Fugue in Stalag 13. 26.out.of.52.

a friend of mine once said to me
“you could have it all
if you’re willing to leave behind
all that gets in your way.
listen.
enough of your half-thought philosophies
and while I can disintegrate your pedestals with such ease
but I didn’t build these mountains for you to climb
so kindly find another trail
one more to the pace of your own sacrificial kind.

leave and you’ll get to me
I don’t want to become our routines.
so let’s ditch these solid lines and leave

dissimilar polarities
self-destruct all your sympathy
and we’ll get the front seat
as you kill off all that feeds you

seems strange how I could be
the positive to your negativity
follow these simple leads
plus left, minus right
minus right, plus these

leave and you’ll get to me.
I don’t want to become our routines.
let’s not end up as singular degrees.

so internet,

I could use your help.

In roughly one week’s time, i’ll be taking a songwriting class in a fancy old converted building in the Presidio, with some marvelous award winning lady who has written some tunes for Bonnie Raitt and Huey Lewis.

and while my first order of business will mostly be to determine if she’s responsible for “The Heart of Rock & Roll,” or “Hip to be Square,” the second thing i’ll have to do is play a song I’ve written for her.

…which is precisely where you come in.

so for easy perusal, here are the last few things I’ve got in some form of completion-ary state.

1. First, Lyrics

2.

Save the bipolar bears! by thecolortwo

3.

written and recorded from the back of a toyota overlooking the bay by thecolortwo

Some slightly older things could also be technically considered (like w(him) or something gravitational), but i’m curious to hear the thoughts of someone other than myself.

both terse and long-winded responses, in addition to any time you take out of your day to indulge my processes would be most appreciated.

-

J.
