an arrangement of The Escape Engine, originally written by Burning Airlines/J. Robbins
One of my all-time favorite songs by one of my all-time favorite guitarists/songwriters/human beings of…all-time. Arranged in a tuning I sincerely doubt it was written in, but ironically ended up being the same chord structure in that key as one of my finished songs. (His is much better!) Cycling through some more archived and unreleased covers this week in preparation for finishing EP #2, which taking a cue from the JP -> NA translations of Final Fantasy games, may end up being called EP #1 because of reasons.
After 12 hours of mixing I no longer recognize my own voice, and I think I can hear colors. May have to go-over levels again tomorrow, but seems relatively solid at the moment.
…Then again, blue.
So I hope you enjoy or give this a chance, or get into the original, as if you are unfamiliar with Mr. Robbins work in Jawbox, Burning Airlines, Govt. Mule, Rollkicker Laydown or the Office of Future Plans, or as an engineer on nearly every brilliant indie, punk or just general dischord album released in the last decade….well, you’re in for lots of treats.
and as always, information and methods of donating to his son’s continuing medical care, foundations, SMA research, etc. can be found @ http://callumrobbins.blogspot.com/
J Robbins and Gordon Withers - Story/Stereo Part 6 - The Escape Engine (by trisloth)
I don’t mean to hurl myself too far into the depths on fanboidom, (being a tumblr follower and all) but I am unbelievably glad these exist. And that J. Robbins is still managing to bless us with occasional performances.
If you are unfortunately unaware of how absurdly talented either of these two folks are, now is your chance to rectify that situation. Gordon’s also got a swell site on here.
** While I cannot even begin to repay or explain the levels of gratitude I have towards J. Robbins for being one of my primary musical influences, (let alone the effect he’s had on music just generally speaking), it would behoove me to include a link for his son’s foundation.
Static - as originally performed by Jawbox.
From a few weeks back when I did a bunch of Jawbox songs. Really kind of nailed the ending, figured it’d be worth posting.
Cooling Card - originally performed by Jawbox.
…Well shit, I lied.
Got home after cramming homework all day with a sudden urge to record a quick Jawbox cover or two. Here’s Cooling Card.
Evidence most likely pointing towards me needing to start exporting track information and editing that separately, just need to bear it out another week in order to have said time. (if you happen to be one of those unfortunate souls so inclined to care.) Then no more dead air episodes. Even if it is somewhat weirdly tolerable in this instance.
Oh, and go see Joy Division.
